       ADMISSIONS AND FINANCIAL AID

       Admissions and Financial Aid

       The Art Institute of Boston invites applicants with artistic potential and drive to succeed to apply for admission.

      In order to be considered for admission, applicants must submit the following:

       Signed application form

       Personal essay

       A $40 application fee

       An official transcript from secondary school

       SAT and/or ACT test scores

       Interview/Portfolio review

       12-20 slides or a digital portfolio

      The portfolio is an extremely important aspect of the application; however, AIB also evaluates prospective students on the strength of their grades and test scores, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities. AIB encourages prospective students to visit the campus to present their portfolio and discuss their potential at AIB.

      Admission Application Deadline Admissions are made on a rolling basis; however, students who wish to start classes in the autumn semester should apply before February 16. Priority deadline is February 15. We encourage transfer and international students to apply. For further information or questions about the application process, please contact the Office of Admissions.

      Financial Aid 2010-2011 Costs: Tuition $26,850 Room and Board $12,800 Activity fee: $250 Health Service fee: $800

      Material costs vary for each department. Students in foundation, fine arts, illustration, and design students may expect to spend about $1,500 annually for supplies, and photography students usually spend about $2,300 per year. Students may incur further expenses depending on the equipment and materials they choose.

      The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University administers over $3 million in scholarships, financial aid and loans each year with approximately 80 percent of AIB student receiving aid. The college maintains a financial aid program of grants; loans and part-time jobs that are bade on the basis of need and/or merit.

      The Financial Aid Office helps students meet education costs through a combination of Federal Pell Grants, Federal Stafford Student Loans, Federal Work-Study, as well as other federal grants, scholarships, and state programs.

      In addition to Federal and State assistance, AIB offers a number of merit-based scholarships and need-based scholarships. Students seeking merit-based assistance for fall enrollment must submit completed publications before February 16.The deadline for need-based financial awards is March 17.

      AIB offers merit-based scholarships for qualified student applying for full-time enrollment to our BFA program. The scholarships are based on academic and artistic achievement. AIB Freshmen scholarship awards range from $4500 - $6500 per year, with one full-tuition Presidential Scholarship. These scholarships are renewable each year as long as you remain in good academic standing. Awards are offered on a rolling basis, but if you apply and are accepted by February 15th you will have first priority consideration for scholarship awards.

       During their undergraduate education, Assumption College students may choose to spend a semester or year abroad. In recent years, Assumption College students have studied throughout the world, from France and England, to the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Australia. Many students augment their education and hone professional skills by pursuing internships. Assumption students have had the opportunity to work in diverse organizations including: Allmerica Financial, Blum Shepiro, Catholic Digest, Citigroup, Clinical Pharmacology, Democratic National Committee, Fidelity, FOX News, Genzyme, Hungarian Embassy, Merrill Lynch, New England Sports Network (NESN), NBC, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Ralph Lauren, Republican National Committee, Smith Barney, Sony (Japan), U.S. House of Representatives, UMass Medical Research.

       Assumption College is a member of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium, an association of the 13 higher learning institutions in the Worcester metropolitan area. Through the Consortium, Assumption students can register for courses at the other twelve colleges, as well as participate in social and cultural events.

       The Reach Out Center, established in 1991, provides Assumption College students with positive and rewarding experiences through volunteering. More than 800 students each year are involved in some form of community service, both on-campus and in Worcester.
