outdoor recreation such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and kayaking.

Over 50 percent of UMF students work on campus, which provides both income and opportunities to make connections with other students, faculty, and staff. Students can choose from a wide variety of jobs, including online research, campus photography, Web design, coordinating student events and activities, office work, lifeguarding, personal training, and much more.

One of the greatest experiences of attending college is living in a residence hall. At Farmington, typically 95 percent of first-year students, and over half of all students, live in on-campus housing. Farmington has recently made a significant commitment to enhancing the residential experience as evidenced by increased weekend programming, extended food-service hours, increased access to campus facilities, and the opening of a new “green” residence hall.

Farmington offers a summer experience program every June, intended to assist incoming first-year students with the transition from high school to college. The one-week academic program, for which the students receive credit, serves as an introduction to college-level work and expectations, and enables students to make connections with their classmates and the campus community.

       SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES

A UMF graduate becomes two things: a good person and a good person who does good things. From our thousands of alumni, we are proud of each of them for contributing to the world in their own way…

Serving the Community and the World

A growing number of students each year pursue graduate studies in fields such as creative writing, law, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and optometry. Some jump right into the workforce. Other graduates are employed in nonprofit organizations, publishing houses, accounting firms, medical labs, different levels of government, and many other fields. Because of UMF’s strong tradition of teacher preparation, UMF education graduates are regarded as leaders in their respective fields and are teaching in schools from New England to Florida, Istanbul to France.

       ADMISSIONS AND FINANCIAL AID

University of Maine at Farmington caps enrollment at 2,000 students. That means admission is competitive and space is limited. Some programs fill quickly—especially Education and Creative Writing. We encourage you to apply through our electronic application located at www.umaine.farmington.edu or http://apply.maine.edu. Generally, UMF reviews applications on a modified rolling basis; the higher your rank in class and the more challenging your college preparatory courses, the earlier a decision will be made. We hope to make most decisions within six weeks of applications becoming complete.

In order to complete the admissions process, please submit the following items:

       Completed application

       $40 nonrefundable application fee

All official high school transcripts (showing at least first-quarter senior year grades)

Official school recommendation for high school seniors (Request for Academic Records form)

Creative Writing majors must submit 12-14 pages of writing samples—a variety of styles is recommended

Essay—your essay is very important. It is used to learn more about you and your experiences, and assess your writing skills.

Important information: SAT-I scores are optional and are used to determine if placement tests are needed. Accepted students without SAT-I scores, or with scores below certain levels, will be asked to take placement tests prior to registration.

Admission Application Deadline Early Action for Fall Admission: Applications completed by December 1 will be considered for Early Action. Early acceptances are issued to competitive applications that clearly satisfy admission criteria. First-year applications must submit a first set of senior year grades. Early Action does not obligate you to attend UMF, but does qualify you for UMF’s early housing option.
