      The practical assignments requirements of the DevOps Master training preparing for the EXIN DevOps Master exam can be met by the following assignments described in this document:

      1. DevOps business simulation ‘The Phoenix Project’.

      2. Self-reflection exercise.

      3. Transfer document.

      This document describes how to organize and facilitate this simulation, how participants should demonstrate their practical skills and how to ‘score’ the exercises during the simulation. The EXIN DevOps Master certification is based on the e-Competence Framework

      (http://www.ecompetences.eu/). The e-CF competences that are covered in the DevOps Master certification are added in the activity tables for reference.

      The simulation game is based upon ‘The Phoenix Project’ Book. Parts Unlimited is in trouble. Newspaper reports reveal the poor financial performance of the organization. The only way forward to not only save the company but to make it competitive and profitable is “The Phoenix Project” which represents an IT enabled business transformation, with Retail Operations as the business owner of this project. The VP of IT Operations is asked to take the lead of the IT department and ensure that “The Phoenix Project” will be a success. But the VP of IT Operations is facing a tremendous amount of work.       The Phoenix Project is a one day business simulation about DevOps. In 4 rounds 8-12 participants will participate in an interactive workshop. The structure of the workshop allows training participants (TP) to demonstrate their skills in 12 individual exercises.

      Each of the participants has to co-deliver one part of the business simulation next to the facilitator and will be observed and assessed by the facilitator.

      The simulation contains the following exercises:

      • Exercise 1 – Preparation/implementation exercise

      • Exercise 2 – Coaching exercise

      • Exercise 3 – Learning and experimenting exercise
