especially when it is used for dining and coffee tables.

The Pa Kua-shaped dining table is superb for a family with three generations living together. You can allocate the chairs according to each person’s best directions.

Square-shaped dining tables are excellent for a small family. The shape suggests perfect balance and grounded symmetry creating easy, harmonious relationships.

      Colour and shape

Walls should always be painted to make the regularity of their shape stand out.

Here are some guidelines for using shape and color to bring family harmony and success. Rectangular walls which are taller rather than broader (without appearing incomplete) are particularly good in the east and southeast corners as this shape signifies growth and success. This is the shape of the Wood Element and Wood suggests the season of spring, a time of growth.

Perfectly square shapes, which belong to the Earth Element, are ideal for the dining room and the dining table since not only does this reflect the stability of grounding energy, but Earth also stands for the mother. The energy of the square shape is very balanced and is very auspicious for family harmony.

Round shapes denote the Metal Element and these are suitable for the west and northwest areas. It is a good idea to create a perfect round patch with clever paintwork techniques on any northwest wall so that you create auspicious luck for the patriarch of the family. Paint it gold for added radiance and additional good luck symbolism. Do not make the shape too large as the round shape can be overpowering for residential homes. In large corporate offices, however, they are ideal when featured in the northwest.

      Linking to Elements

On the north walls of living and dining rooms you can use color to create the wavy shape of its Element Water. This will create good career luck for the residents. Cover the bottom half of the wall with this shape to enhance the grounding nature of water. The result will help bring better recognition at work and also enhanced promotion opportunities for you.

In terms of shapes, it is a good idea to avoid using the Fire Element shape. The fire shape is triangular and this is generally considered as inauspicious and unsuitable for home interiors, mainly because fire inside the home can be one of the signs of danger. Too much of the Fire Element will be overpowering because the destructive force of fire can destroy any good luck coming into your living space. In the same way, water on the rooftop also constitutes a danger in feng shui, as it can symbolically drown you and wash away positive influences.

The shape of the Wood Element

Rectangular walls are good in the east and southeast.

The shape of the Earth Element

Square shapes are best in the dining room for harmony.

The shape of the Metal Element

Circles are suitable in the west and northwest.

The shape of the Water Element

Create the wave shape with blue for the Water Element in the north for career luck.

27 – identifying and coping with inauspicious shapes

It is important to identify inauspicious shapes to improve the flow of chi in your home. These shapes may exist as part of the layout of your home, and be present in your furniture arrangement.

Some of the most commonly encountered inauspicious shapes reflected in floor plans are those which are made up of unbalanced combination of squares and rectangles, so that missing corners or incomplete shapes are created.

The examples shown here are S-shaped, N-shaped, and T-shaped arrangements. To remedy the imbalance, if you cannot alter the space of a room structurally due to lack of space or budget, or because you live in an apartment, then it is a good idea to keep that corner well lit in order to increase yang energy there. Otherwise, luck will be missing from this area.

      Dealing with missing areas

Usually the best way of coping with missing areas is to use floor-length mirrors that have the effect of visually adding new space to the missing corner. But this remedy can only be used outside the bedrooms and kitchens. Another acceptable method is to enhance the energy of any missing areas by creating greater yang energy there, either with sounds, bright colors, or moving objects. This activates the chi that has become sluggish there, making it move and compensating for the unbalanced energy situated in those corners.

Keep the empty spaces well lit.

28 – missing corners and what they mean

Missing corners are diagnosed according to which corner is missing in terms of its compass direction. Its effect depends on whether the missing corner represents your good or bad directions.

It indicates which member of the family’s luck will be curtailed or affected. It also shows what kind of luck will be missing.

According to the Pa Kua method of feng shui, each of the eight compass corners of any home or any room is assigned one type of luck or life aspiration. To find out what type of luck is affected, therefore, it is necessary to first determine which compass direction the missing corner represents. Remember, as mentioned in here, use a good reliable compass to determine the orientation of your home’s rooms, and then after you have superimposed the Lo Shu grid onto the floor plan, you will be able to see immediately which corner is missing. Then read on to see whose luck, and what kind of luck, is missing from the house. Also please note the remedies that are suggested for each corner.

      The south sector

This affects the luck of respect, honor, recognition, and fame for those engaged in high-profile jobs or businesses. If this corner is missing, the good name of the family or its patriarch could get tarnished. To change and correct the luck here, add a mirror or some bright lights. The family member who will be affected by this luck is the middle daughter.

      The southwest sector

This area affects the luck that is related to love, family, marriage, and romance. If this section is missing, it also causes the family’s social life and popularity to suffer. The mother is seriously diminished, and the luck of the women of the household will also be reduced. To correct a missing southwest corner, place a cluster of natural quartz crystal here and shine a bright light on it.
