to the quality of the fruits and vegetables you will be using, I fully recommend it as part of the program and beyond. In addition to what the program says, you are free to mix with some water and drink throughout the day. This gives you two reasons to drink: one to keep hydrated and two to get some good alkalizing nutrients into your body during the program on top of the juices and smoothies. (Visit www.juicemaster.com for details.) Please note there are many other “greens” on the market and some extremely good ones, such as Udo’s Beyond Greens and Inner Light. I personally wanted an amazing-quality product that would dissolve completely even in water, and JM’s Super Greens does just that.

      • Good-quality acidophilus bacteria capsules. Good-quality friendly bacteria are again optional but I would highly encourage this one. Most people have an overgrowth of Candida in the gut and a great deal of good bacteria has been destroyed. This needs to be replaced and those ubiquitous small containers of yogurt are not going to do the trick effectively. Simply get some live acidophilus in capsule form and empty the contents into a juice. It can be purchased in all good health food stores.

      • Spirulina. You can buy this super food from any good health store or on the website. (SeeSpirulina,”.)

      • Mini-trampoline. If you are going to get a mini-trampoline it’s worth investing in a really good one. There are several models I recommend but be careful of cheap “rebounders” as they can “jar” your joints and have the opposite effect of what you are looking for. At our retreats we always use a mini-trampoline as part of the program and I cannot recommend this form of fun exercise enough. I am almost as passionate about rebounding as I am juicing. See website for recommendations.

      • A portable music player. Clearly this is optional, but there is no question that you will always do that little bit more when a good track comes on. Personally, I would do about half or less of the exercise I do without the power of good music. Any MP3 player is worth the investment—the iPod being the most famous, but there are other great ones on the market.

      • A good thermos. One of the main problems with thermoses is the smell and “taint” that tends to be left after storing juice for a while, no matter much you clean them. This is why I have put the Juice Master stamp of approval on Sigg flasks, which have a hygienically coated interior to avoid tainting. (See www.juicemaster.com for a Juice Master branded Sigg Flask.)

      • Fruits and vegetables. Read on for the full shopping list …

7 lbs in 7 Days Shopping List

This can be downloaded free from www.juicemaster.com, or if you have the 7 lbs in 7 Days app you can use the auto-generated shopping list. This enables you to shop by day or set of days and press “generate shopping list”—and it works it all out for you. Don’t you just love new technology!

      Shopping List for Days 1–3

Get the following items the day before you start the program:

      • A copy of The Juice Master: Turbo-Charge Your Life in 14 Days. This is optional, but it is highly recommended, especially if you want to do Phases 2 and 3 effectively. The idea is for you to start reading the book on days 3/4 and have it finished by day 7. The book will be extremely valuable not only because it outlines the best way forward from the 7 days, but also because it will help keep you in the right frame of mind while you are still on this first part of the plan If you already have this book, please make sure you follow the instructions and re-read it from days 3–7. The book is available in all good bookstores and on the website.

      • 2 lemons—wax free if possible

      • 6 limes

      • 3 ripe avocados

      • 35 apples—not Granny Smiths; they just don’t juice well

      • 3 medium pineapples

      • 2½ cucumbers

      • 5 carrots

      • 4 sticks of celery

      • 1 head of broccoli

      • 1 raw beet

      • 1 zucchini

      • A stem of fresh ginger

      • 7 oz (200 g) natural unsweetened organic yogurt. If you are vegan or otherwise completely dairy free you can use soy yogurt with friendly bacteria.

      • 1–2 trays of freshly grown wheatgrass, wheatgrass powder or—see www.juicemaster.com for more details.

      • 3.5 oz (100 g) bottle spirulina—this can be found in all good health stores or at www.juicemaster.com.

      • 1 bottle of Juice Master’s Super Greens (or “Superfood” as it may still be called when you read this book)—this is optional, but if you do buy a bottle it will last you well over a month. See website for details on this.

      • 1 bottle of high-potency probiotic (friendly bacteria) capsules—I recommend either Udo’s Super 5s or Super 8s and these can be found in all good health stores or on the website. If you can’t get Udo’s, there are several other good brands.

      • 1 bag of watercress

      • 1 bag of kale

      • 1 bag of spinach

      • 1 bag of parsley

      • 1 bag of alfalfa sprouts—these can be hard to get, so simply leave out if you can’t get them; it doesn’t make or break the program.

      • 1 bulb of fresh fennel—optional, to make fresh tea

      • A few sprigs of fresh mint—optional, to make fresh tea

      • 3 good pinches of cinnamon

      • 1 banana

      • Ice cubes. Clearly you make these but you do need to have plenty ready—veggie juice really does taste soooooo much better when cold!
