In the prior chapter, we used Sarah’s example to show how changing her thoughts changed her life. When she no longer expected to trip every time she was in public, then she stopped tripping.
When she no longer expected a relationship to fail quickly, they stopped failing quickly! When she started thinking that the next promotion would go to her, it went to her. Shortly after Sarah began to think that life was not so bad, her life improved.
Sarah’s negative attitude attracted negative things into her life. She did not have bad luck; she had created her own bad luck.
When she changed her thinking, she started putting out positive energy and she saw positive things coming back to her. Sarah redefined her own reality from a negative one to a positive one.
We all have that power. There are no dark forces conspiring against us in the world. Murphy’s Law does not exist. Bad luck does not exist.
We create our own reality. If we have bad luck, it is because we are inviting it into our lives. Our thoughts become our reality. If we want to change our reality, we need to change our thoughts.
Our destiny is in our hands. The things that we have were brought to us; we manifested them into our lives through the energy that is our thoughts.
Much like Sarah, when we change our thinking we change ourselves and by proxy, our lives. When we focus our thoughts on the things that we want into our lives, then we are sending out energy into the universe, asking it to bring us the things that we want, and as long as we are open to receiving it, we will receive it.
Going back to the premise that like attracts like, when you are thinking a certain way then you attract the thing that you are thinking about into your life.
You create your reality. You can attract the things that you want in your life. Consider that your thoughts are like a magnet, you put out energy waves in the form of thought waves to the universe and it responds. The trick is that you must put out the right waves.
Does that mean that the random negative thought will attract nothing but negative things to your life? No, not necessarily, the Law of Attraction is more about our subconscious thinking than our conscious thinking.
Our conscious thinking is all of the things that we are actively thinking about right now! When we apply our minds to a problem or when we interact with people that is our conscious thinking.
It is our subconscious thinking that drives our conscious thinking. Even the happiest, most well adjusted person can have bad days but their basic subconscious thinking is still positive overall.
The Law of Attraction works with the power of our subconscious thinking. That is where the brain operates constantly. Every thought and action that we have bubbles up from the subconscious; it is what drives us to be how we are.
In order to create your own reality you need to begin with your subconscious. For example, in Sarah’s example, things did not change for her overnight.
It took her weeks and months of changing the focus of her thinking from negative to positive before she finally turned her subconscious mindset around.
Instead of a negative person who had the occasional positive day, she became a positive person with the occasional bad day.
In order to create your own reality you need to know what that reality is that you want. What do you really want? What do you want to change?
You need to know what you want and you have to believe that you will get it. If you do not believe that the Law of Attraction will work, then it will not work.
Your skepticism will derail the entire process. You also have to expect, or allow yourself to receive the things that you want. You need to think of yourself as already having those traits or things that you want.
When you want them, believe that you will get them, and then expect it to happen, it will happen. You will be creating the life that you want for yourself, one item at a time.
Case Study – Sarah
“I was always passed up for promotion. I knew going into work every day that I would be passed up for any promotions. I was resigned that whoever had been hired after me would likely be put in charge of any major projects and that I would just be in a supporting role. I felt like I was not good enough to be put in charge and that I did not deserve it.
When I started thinking that I was worthy of the promotion and that I could handle being in charge of a project and I began to not just think that but also honestly believe it, I was put in charge of a project after a few weeks. A few months later, I was given a promotion. I had to believe that I was worth it and that it would happen and I expected it to happen and it happened.”
Sarah’s case is not a fluke. It is a perfect example of how you can create your own reality. Because so few people understand the power that our thoughts can have, they end up inadvertently creating the life that they do not want instead of the life that they do want. Once you understand how you can change your life, it is possible to do so.
