      15. Drifting out the small cross pin (upper arrow) at the top of the vertical trigger group extension will release the sear spring and plunger for removal upward. Drifting out the sear pivot pin (lower arrow) will allow the sear to be taken out toward the front. The trigger and disconnector pivot on the same pin, are removed as a unit, along with the disconnector spring. The disconnector can be separated from the trigger by drifting out the short pin that mounts it in the trigger. To remove the safety, use a small screwdriver to depress the plunger and spring inside, at the center, under the safety, and move the safety out toward the right. Caution: Control the compressed spring and plunger and ease them out.

       Reassembly Tips:

      1. When replacing the striker in the bolt, note that the striker has a guide lug on its left side that mates with a track inside the bolt.

      2. When replacing the bolt in the trigger group, carefully compress the recoil spring on its guide, then use a fingertip to hold the spring and guide in place on the bolt while fitting the bolt into place, inserting the tip of the striker spring guide into its hole in the vertical extension. Then, fit the rear bracket of the bolt spring guide onto its lug on the extension. Caution: While the bolt spring is compressed, keep it aimed away from your eyes, in case the finger should slip.

      3. When reassembling the takedown latch system, be sure the small wedge-tipped plunger on the underside of the latch is oriented so the wedge tip aligns with the serrations on the adjustment nut. Use a small screwdriver to depress the two plungers alternately as the latch is moved into place.

      4. To readjust the barrel nut, install the barrel on the gun before replacing the forend, lock the takedown latch in place, and turn the knurled adjustment nut until the ring is snug against the receiver. Then, reinstall the forend.

       Similar/Identical Pattern Guns

The same basic assembly/disassembly steps for the Browning T-Bolt also apply to the following gun:

       Browning T-2 T-Bolt

Data: Browning T-Bolt
Origin: Belgium
Manufacturer: Fabrique Nationale, Herstal (for Browning Arms Company, Morgan, Utah)
Cartridge: 22 Long Rifle
Magazine capacity: 5 rounds
Overall length: 39¼ inches
Barrel length: 22 inches
Weight: 5½ pounds

The unusual “straight pull” bolt of this fine little gun is a masterpiece of good engineering, and works beautifully. Unfortunately, the average American shooter has never been fond of unusual actions, and the T-Bolt was imported for less than ten years, from 1965 to 1973. In addition to the plain T-1 model, a T-2 was offered, with 24-inch barrel and fancy stock. The gun was also available in a left-hand version. An accessory single-shot adapter would allow the use of 22 Short or Long, as well as Long Rifle. Except for the reversal of some directions in the left-hand model, the instructions will apply to all of them.

       Disassembly:

      1. Remove the magazine, and remove the main stock mounting screw, on the underside just forward of the magazine well. Separate the action from the stock.

      2. Removal of the wood screw at the rear of the trigger guard unit will allow the guard to be taken off downward.

      3. To remove the bolt, hold the trigger to the rear, and move the bolt out the rear of the receiver.

      4. With the bolt handle in the closed (locked) position, push the vertical pin at the rear of the bolt upward, and remove it.

      8. Remove the firing pin from its channel in the top of the bolt.

      9. The twin extractors are retained by two vertical roll pins at the front of the bolt. Use a roll pin punch to drift out the pins, and remove the extractors from each side, along with the single transverse coil spring that powers both.

      10. Push out the magazine catch cross pin, and remove the magazine catch and its coil spring downward.

      11. Removal of the magazine catch will give access to the magazine housing screw, which is taken out downward.
