‘I do, although I do think it goes in grades. People who have given birth to their own child have a bond that is very deep and instinctual, even if it’s through a donor. Then the next level is adopting a child as a baby or through a surrogate. Again that bond is deep because you are growing the child from the beginning, but it won’t be quite as profound. And then you go a bit further up if you adopt a child that is slightly older. I know I have a deep love for the children I care for even though not a single one belongs to me, but I am also realistic that there is an intrinsic attachment that I don’t have because I never gave birth to them.’
