Директива американского военного командования на Европейском театре военных действий (United States Forces European Theater, USFET) от 7 июля 1945 года, определяя степень виновности членов нацистской партии, установила дату вступления в НСДАП с 1 мая 1937 года, чтобы разделить активных нацистов, удаление или исключение которых было обязательным, от номинальных нацистов, удаление или отстранение которых от работы являлось дискреционным (§ 2 (b)). В прежних инструкциях для тех же целей использовалась дата вступления в НСДАП до или после января 1933 года, то есть с момента прихода нацистов к власти.
