On the following pages of your journal, you could write inspiring quotes or poems. As you may have noticed I love quotes, I find them very empowering and uplifting. Be sure to include plenty in your journal. You can also add a family portrait, a photo of our Reiki Masters or magazine clippings of people who you admire. Remember to have fun with your journaling.

      HOW ARE YOU?

You hear that question many times a day and quickly respond with a “Good thanks and you?” Society seems to frown upon the person who dares answer the question with a truthful “Well, I am feeling unwell this morning. I woke up with this pain in my neck from sleeping funny on my pillow. I didn’t really get a good nights sleep because the neighbour’s dogs were barking and I was up and down going to the bathroom…”

Starting from this moment I would like you to get in touch with your true feelings. No censoring your responses because you are afraid you are wrong or someone will find out how you really feel. No more ignoring the pain hoping it will go away or refusing to acknowledge the discomfort because you don’t want to complain. This journal is a record for you only. So be true, to you.

On the following pages of your Reiki journal, write about…

Any health problems you may be experiencing including aches and pains and note the intensity of chronic issues. A great way to record the degree of intensity is by using the S.U.D.S (Subjective Units of Distress Scale). Rate the intensity of your pain from 0-10. “0” being the discomfort you feel is nonexistent and “10” is the most intense it has ever been.

All emotional challenges you may have at the moment big or small.

The relationships you have including the good and the not so good.

Your financial situation and how you feel about it.

       Your diet and exercise routine.

       Your general likes and dislikes.

       Any unwanted habits.

      THE PRINCIPLES OF REIKI

It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goals. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach for. It is not a calamity to die with dreams unfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideals, but it is a disaster to have no ideals to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. ~Benjamin Elijah Mays

In 1944 the President of Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia, Dr Benjamin Elijah Mays, was asked by the father of a student to inspire his teenage son to dream. Mays handed the student the above quote and told him if he read it every day it would have a profound effect on his life. That teenage student was Martin Luther King Jnr.

Just as the above quote moulded the life of Martin Luther King Jnr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the System of Reiki, believed that the Reiki Ideals would do the same for you.

Usui advised his students that “the way to invite happiness through many blessings” is to place your hands in Gassho (prayer position at the chest) every morning and night and recite the Reiki Ideals.

When Mikao Usui taught Reiki to his students, the Reiki Ideals or Principles formed the greatest part of his teachings. It remains unclear as to the origins of the Ideals but they continue to be an essential part of Reiki Tradition.

On the following page of your journal write the Reiki Ideals or Principles that you were given by your Reiki Master. If you don’t have a copy of them, here are the Ideals given to me by my Reiki I and 2 Master, Kevin Duff.

       THE REIKI IDEALS

Just for today don’t anger, accept.

Just for today don’t worry, accept.

Just for today count your blessings and be grateful.

Just for today do an honest day’s work and earn your livelihood without hurting anyone.

Just for today be kind to every single living thing.

Over the next three weeks we will be exploring the deeper meaning of these principles.

      EXPECTATIONS, CHANGES AND FEARS

Reiki is always, consistently wonderful, and is always used by the body to move toward health and balance, and there can be a few bumps along the way. ~ Penelope Jewell

Life doesn’t always turn out the way we plan. We sometimes come to a point where we need to change the road we are travelling on and move in another direction.

Reiki is a great tool to use to gently guide you in the direction that is exactly right for you at this moment. Once again it may not be the direction you had expected, but if you place your TRUST in Reiki it will ALWAYS work for your highest good. Reiki can do no harm.

Just like the Reiki Attunements, the next 21 days will bring change into your life. This may be experienced as a new awareness, a new attitude as well as physical and emotional healing.

During our Reiki One training our Master made us aware of a possible “healing crisis” as we continued our new relationship with Reiki energy. I have since been shown that this crisis, although sometimes unwelcomed, is actually a “healing opportunity”. American politician Tom Barrett once said:

“Chaos in the world brings uneasiness, but it also allows the opportunity for creativity and growth”

Embrace change, wanted or unwanted, and step into the possibility of healing and growth. Please note that healing is not always the same as a “cure”. Reiki does not promise to cure anything. By healing we mean balance. Reiki brings the body, mind and soul back into balance relieving stress and tension which are two of the major causes of “dis-ease” in the body.

For the next entry in your journal write:

The reasons why you chose to do this program,

       What you expect to achieve,

How do you feel this book will change you,

What changes you would like to see and

Any fears you may have about the next 21 days.
