-countless infinitesimals of pleasurable and genial feelings.”

      SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE

      ENGLISH POET

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

It is said that when you smile you use over 20 muscles in your face.

In addition your level of well being rockets up the scale and you immediately change your attitude to one of happiness.

I know, for example, John Cleese and the Monty Python team were, importantly for many people, a great source of outrageous humour and happiness.

“A man is happy so long as he chooses to be happy”

      ALEXANDER SOLZHENITSYN

      RUSSIAN WRITER

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

What is your state of mind at present?

Are you happy in yourself or unhappy and feeling down?

Well chances are, if you are, you need to do some work on yourself and change the message in your mind.

It’s like changing a CD in your head to one that gives you positive messages and reinforcement. However, it is not easy to do this, because first you have to want to change the current feelings you are experiencing.

“Man’s life is happy mainly because he is always expecting that it will soon be so.”

      EDGAR ALLEN POE

      AMERICAN POET AND WRITER

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

It is said that we live in hope and whilst there’s life there’s hope!

Perhaps the three most important ingredients in creating hope and happiness are expectation, anticipation and excitement.

It’s like following your favourite football team, if you’ve got one. You can’t wait for the season to start, you read and listen to all the journalists analysing how your team will go in the coming season.

      Then you wait and hope!

“There is only one happiness in life, to love and to be loved.”

      AMANDINE AURORE LUCIE DUPIN

FRENCH NOVELIST, ALSO KNOWN AS GEORGE SAND

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

Yes, it’s the words in many songs of many ages that make an impression on you as you develop in life.

The key however is to know what they mean to you in real life.

Perhaps they are meant to be appropriate for young people growing up in life, more than when you are in your twilight years.

It’s then that these words can really take on a different meaning and importance.

“It’s a sign of your own worth sometimes if you are hated by the right people.”

      MILES FRANKLIN

      AUSTRALIAN WRITER

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

One of the greatest challenges you will face in life is to come to terms with your own net worth.

It’s hard to believe your own worth, but often you will receive an indication of it, by the level of jealousy or hatred you encounter in life.

At the time it can be a shock to your system and knock you around, but when you think about it, it’s really a compliment in disguise.

      STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS #34

“Hatred and bitterness can never cure the disease of fear; only love can do that. Hatred paralyses life; love harmonises it. hatred darkens life; love illumines it.”

      MARTIN LUTHER KING

      AMERICAN BLACK CIVIL-RIGHTS LEADER

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

Kieth, a friend of mine has often said “It’s best to move on quickly from a crisis and not hold on to hate or bitterness, because if you do you will need to dig two graves.”

So when you feel this way the best way forward is to forgive as quickly as possible.

However, this action isn’t easy and takes a lot of talent to achieve.

      STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS #35

“Hatred rarely does any harm to its object. It is the hater who suffers.”

      LORD BEAVERBROOK

      CANADIAN BORN NEWSPAPER PROPRIETOR

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

It’s funny how this works, but the more energy we put into hating something or someone, the more we hurt ourselves.

It seems it can take control of your mind and control your thinking and rationalisation process. It can even become an obsession that can drive you mad.

So the next time you feel hatred towards someone or something remember that when you point at it there are three fingers pointing back at you.

      STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS #36

“Health and cheerfulness mutually beget each other.”

      JOSEPH ADDISON

      ENGLISH ESSAYIST

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

How often have you seen a person who is unhappy lose their love of life and become ill and die.

It’s easy to see how this can happen, but hard to help them snap out of it.

However, that’s what true friends are for. True friends see this and work hard to help people fly up again to where they belong. The key for this to be achieved though is for the person to want to fly again and be happy.

      STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS #37

“To wish to be well is a part of becoming well.”

      SENECA

      ROMAN PHILOSOPHER AND STATEMAN

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

It’s a sensitive subject but one that has its many believers. When you are not well and suffering an illness, you would be amazed at the number of people who have used the well known positive affirmation technique to start feeling better.

As has been said by many psychologists, if you can change how you’re thinking effectively enough, many illnesses can be reverted..

So the next time you’re feeling ill, try thinking about being well and you could be amazed with the outcome.

      STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS #38

“To get the body in tone, get the mind in tune.”

      ZACHARY T. BERCOVITZ

      AMERICAN DOCTOR AND WRITER

      COACH’S COMMENTS:

If you’re finding it difficult to get to sleep at nights, have you tried reading a book?

Reading a book, compared to watching television, enables you to use your visualization process and dream or imagine the people and the plot in
