       Campus Setting

      Augusta is a public, comprehensive university. Founded as a postgraduate academy in 1783, it became a junior college in 1925, was incorporated into the state university system in 1958 and began granting four-year degrees in 1967. Its 72-acre campus is located on a former plantation in Augusta. A four-year public institution, Augusta State University has an enrollment of 7,061 students. In addition to a large, well-stocked library, the campus facilities include: history museum • golf course. Augusta State University provides on-campus housing with 162 units that can accommodate 508 students. Housing options: single-student apartments.

       Student Life and Activities

      Most students (93 percent) live off campus which does impact the on-campus social scene. Popular campus events include Homecoming. Augusta State University has 66 official student organizations. The most popular are: choir • concert and pep bands • jazz ensemble • drama guild • team managers. Augusta State University is a member of the Peach Bell Conference (Division II).

       Academics and Learning Environment

      For the B student, the learning environment of a college is just as important as the quality of its academic program. Augusta State University has 243 full-time and 192 part-time faculty members, offering a student-to-faculty ratio of 18:1. The most common course size is 20 to 29 students.
