Chapter Two: Your Incredible Mind
“Every divine deposit multiplies with use.” — D. Oyedepo
“To be possessed of a vigorous mind is not enough; the prime requisite is to apply it.” — René Descartes
Your Incredible Mind
Your mind is a divine deposit given to you by your creator. Your mind’s capacity increases enlarges and multiplies with use. Have you ever had the saying that your worth and value in life is essentially a product of the use of your mind? Man is a unique creature and possesses unusual endowment. It is true that your thoughts hold the key to your life. Therefore the need for mental enlargement and a constant realization about the incredible power of a spirited mind cannot be overemphasized. Your mind acts as a pivot around which your whole existence revolves. It is essentially where thinking take place. It is impossible to think one thing and produce another. A happy and productive life results from correct thinking. While an unhappy and unproductive life results from incorrect or negative thinking. It is as simple as that. With the appropriate use of your mind you can produce the changes you desire. A productive life demands engaging your mind and senses positively.
So you’ve often heard this question what’s on your mind? My question to you today is what is really on your mind??? Is it the chores you have to do today, the bills you have to pay, the toddler you have to drop off at preschool, that goal for expanding your school, mission or endeavors abroad? What is really on your mind? When we discover the incredible potential this little yet phenomenal gift we have, we will begin to use every second, every minute, every hour of the day constructively to deposit valuable things into our mind that will give us a compound interest of what we are really looking for in life. You see your mind is like a seed bed. It responds to incremental deposits and investment. You can tell what is on your mind right now by what the results around you are in the near future. If ordinary minds that became aware of their unlimited creative potential have produced the outstanding results we see today in the world then we are expected us to do better .We are expected to produce extraordinary results by the appropriate use of your God- given mind. It has often been said that the state of your life is determined by the state of your mind. Let me give you some natural facts about our mind.
In 1971 a new computer came in with a 1000 page manual. However it has been proven that humans were born with a brain billions of times better than the computer. You see there are certain programs loaded in your consciousness. These programs are you natural thinking software. You get them included with your mind when you entered the world. But most people stop there. Compare it with your computer when you buy a new PC or Mac you get an operating system included (Windows or Mac OS). These software programs are ok but they are not optimal. They are not perfect. The operating system serves only as a foundation and if you want to be able to handle more complex task you need more. When you realize that your software is not sufficient for your current needs, you run down to the computer store to purchase more software or a software upgrade. If you want to keep track of your schedules you need to install a personal information scheduler. If you want to organize your finances online you need to install online calculator software. And guess what? Your mind works in the exactly same way. You are born with special brain programs to be able to learn and memorize everything you experience during your life time. You have one brain program to remember special programs, one brain program to remember pictures, structures, numbers etc. The fantastic thing about your mind is that it uses these existing brain programs and it refines them as it goes along.
My point is that the mind works according to certain basic principles. We can define the mind as a man’s seat of feelings and thoughts. It is the intelligent faculty of a man. The mind has the ability to think and reason. Unfortunately many have thought that the spirit of a man is more important than the mind. But I’d like you to know that your mind is as important as your spirit. For example think about how much value and worth a mad man has? As a matter of fact in some countries he is not included in a census count meaning he is not considered a human being. He is mentally grounded. He has lost his entire worth as a man.
Everyone is a person of great value but your value is essentially a function of the use to which you put your mind. When you become mentally grounded you automatically become valueless. At the point of insanity a man’s entire dignity is eroded. His entire value is lost. He cannot use his mind constructively. This gives you an idea of the place of your mind in determining your value in life. Think for one second about creativity. Creativity demands and requires the use of your mind. Your mind is the factor that makes you relevant to the world.
Think for one second. How much is your mind worth to you? What will your mind do for another who is privileged to glean from it? What will your mind bring to them “if they practice what is hidden within its corridors?
Is it that hard to imagine great exploits being naturally exhibited from within you – by your inspired mind? Can you see yourself “being, doing, and creating great things and great possibilities? Have you determined how much your steps are worth? What is the nature of the lifestyles of those who seek the wisdom of your mind? What are they doing? What are they “attempting” to do? What did you invest today in your incredible mind?
There are pertinent question to start our journey in the discovery of your incredible mind.
The mind is the common creative tool given to all human beings by the creator. What is so interesting about this common creative tool given by the creator is that he himself places great importance and significance to the role of the mind. Think about it all three members of the God –head trinity possesses a mind mas is recorded in scriptures.
In giving thanks to the creator (our source) the psalmist in in Psalm 84 said:
What is man that thou art mindful of him
To be mindful means to think consistently about something or someone in the minutest details.
In Jeremiah 29:11 the creator himself said these words:
For I know the thoughts that I have towards you. Therefore thinking is an exercise of the mind Furthermore the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 2:9. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Again we have reference to Jesus having a mind.
In Romans 8:27 we even have a clear account of the mind of the spirit. It says: ….He that searches the hearts knows what the mind of the spirit is. So we see from the above that :
1.God the Father has a mind…
2.Jesus the Son has a mind and
3.The Holy spirit has a mind
Well isn’t that incredible?
If God created mankind in his image and his likeness this means we too have a mind like they do. At creation when God said let us make man in our own image and likeness he meant to say Let us put our kind of mind in him. Because it is recorded that after God breathed into man the breathe of life he became a living soul. That means he became alive with a soul by the spirit of God. Since man is made in his image and likeness man has the same soul with God at creation. This is why after God breathed into man he handed over everything on earth to him. This was man’s original nature till he fell through sin.
At new birth however a man’s spirit comes alive with experience of complete transformation from the natural to a spiritual state thereby having access to all God created him to be. At new birth man is resorted to his original form which is the image and likeness of God.
If we are created in his image and likeness than it can be inferred that we do have their mind — an incredible mind. The bible
