Floating ’round in circles
In towards a silent stream
As the water merges
With an undulating scream
Thunderclouds are racing
Through an aggravated sky
Above the bloody ocean
Where all hope must surely die
Shadows from the deep
That play for keeps
Nightmare waters
Swallowing the sea
Nightmare waters
They are drowning me
Nightmare waters
Swelling, evil tide
Dreaming waters penetrate with thoughts of
Suicide
Blue water
White death
Sharp tingle
Gasp for breath
Blood thickens the water now
Blue water, white death
Gotta get away somehow
Drifting alone
Through a sea of instant nightmares
Being absorbed by a smiling spree
You’re back there
Dreaming about Jamaican time shares
I’m being eaten way out at sea
Presence of an eye
That swallows light
Blue water
White death
Sharp tingle
Gasp for breath
Blood thickens the water now
Blue water, white death
Gotta get away somehow
Get away somehow
Blue water, white death
Blue water, white death
Blue water, white death
Blue water white death gotta get away somehow
Dead Fiddler
Rumor used to have it
He was on the lam
But you could see him every morning
Fiddle in hand
Didn’t look like much
But he played the fiddler insane
Used to hang out on the corner
Of 7th and Main
Where his bow hand
Made him the wrong kind of friends
Dead fiddler
Oh dead fiddler
’Long about twilight
On one rainy day
His hat was heard to jingle
From a block away
Had the golden touch
On that day it had seemed
But how was he to know
While his fiddle screamed
He’d soon join it
In a black back alley dream
Dear Fiddler
Oh dead fiddler
Down the street he fled
Feet now made of lead
Past the dumpster on the right
Where crouching out of sight...
Hiding in wait like birds of prey
They fed him to the dying day
Rumor used to have it
He was on the lam
But you could see him every morning
Fiddle in hand
Didn’t look like much
But he played the fiddler insane
Used to hang out on the corner
Of 7th and Main
Where nearby were found
Alley walls rosin-stained
Dead fiddler
Oh dead fiddler
The Paradox
If everything to come has been before
And nothing new is left
The in-between mere footprints on the shore
All washed away
If yesterdays repeat tomorrow’s dream
The unrepented theft
Your destiny a picture on a screen
Whose price to pay
As I slip into the interval
Between two instants of time
I’m left with an eternity
To study the cosmic design
The stars align
Within my mind
All soon will be revealed
Till I awake
And daylight takes
The crop without a yield
I don’t believe there’s time
To assert a simple mind
They’ve all been left behind
As we rise to meet the ever setting sun
Why can’t you hitch a ride
And depart the other side
To try and turn the tide
Back to where it should already have begun
Skunk Song
There’s a skunk loose in the neighborhood
If you ask me it smells real good
A sweet stench in the air today
Hope it don’t soon drift away
There’s a skunk down in the basement now
Must’ve got trapped there somehow
Don’t ask me where it’s from
And I might just give you some
Come sing my skunk song with me
Just about as high as we can be
Come sing my skunk song with me
Just about as high as we can be
Phew-we!
Skunks should be wild and free
They mean no harm to you and me
So why can’t we just
Leave them be
There’s a skunk stuck in the closet there
Where he seems
