      It’s interesting that during my first trip to California I really visited his town and several times I parked the car at a short distance from his house, but I found it out three years later.

      Well, I will certainly return to the story of this Californian in sixth generation, but later.

      Dating sites – local, national, and international – are nowadays phenomena – phenomena of Web 1.0 that successfully survives in Web 2.0, too.

      Please tell me the truth: Is there anyone who wasn’t nosy about them?

      Every day one either sees a banner, or hears a commercial on the radio, or hears by word of mouth; in word, it’s not a secret that dating sites exist; what might be a secret, though, that nearly everyone tries them at least to satisfy the curiosity. Temptation is too strong.

      Web 1.0 dating could confuse anyone anytime; it could be a real mess.

      Every day since registration, a special digest, a catalogue of a sort, with the pictures and profiles of the new men and women, who registered on the site for the previous twenty-four hours, was sent. And it was to add to those thousands of men’s and women’s profiles that one could find on their own.

      Naturally, anyone was available for contact, and so an impression – or, more precisely, illusion – of the endless, but at the end somehow successful, search for a life-time partner (or just a special one, or a friend, or a soul-mate, or a husband) could take over momentarily. Only fancy, you had hundreds of new candidates every day!

      Of course, it excited everyone’s imagination, but that’s after all just imagination. The truth is, it was self-deception. One could see this quite well or, on the contrary, would never pay attention at this fact at all.

      Perhaps, it shall be mentioned the above is specific to international dating sites; and although today it can be found at any online dating service, the speed, grandiosity and scale of international ones beat everything.

      The other particularity of international dating is that they give a big chance for grown-up boys and girls from all over the world, speaking different languages literally and figuratively, to begin playing a virtual game with each other.

      So, on the intersection of these two peculiarities we discover an interesting entity – a global community of a sort built on the principle of conveyor, a production line: try a person – move to a next step until the final product is complete; should one step fail, return to the very beginning of the process.

      Speaking of final product, however, one shouldn’t forget that all the dating site’s users have absolutely different goals, what are known to no one but them.

      At best then, the whole process of the game reminds a big lottery – if you’re lucky, then… well, kudos.
