      A New Friend

Once upon a time in the icy sea lived a little seal pup named Kroshik. He was small and delicate, but very smart and resourceful. His best friend was Dusya, a young seal too, who loved fish and fun adventures just as much as Kroshik did.

Kroshik and Dusya spent their days playing games, traveling across the sea, and making new friends. One day, while they were playing tag – their favorite game – they heard a faint cry in the distance. They immediately stopped their fun and rushed to help. It turned out that a little sea lion was trapped in an icy cage formed by a giant iceberg!

Kroshik and Dusya didn’t hesitate for a second. They started trying to break the ice using their teeth and claws, but it was too solid, and they were still too small and weak to crack such a huge block. So they called for Lil Walrus and his grandpa. Together, they pushed the iceberg aside and freed the sea lion from his frozen prison.

The little sea lion was very grateful to his rescuers. From that day on, they became good friends and explored the vast ocean together. Kroshik and Dusya knew they could always count on their new sea lion friend if they ever found themselves in trouble.

      Grandma’s Visit

She lived on faraway islands and brought treats – dried fish of different kinds and tasty seaweed full of iodine. Kroshik loved these delicious snacks. But more than anything, he loved it when Grandma told him stories. He adored listening to them.

Now, instead of eating lunch, Kroshik curled up next to Grandma and waved his flipper.

«You haven’t been here in so long! I missed you! Please, tell me a story!»

«Oh, kiddo. First, you need to eat something. You’ve gotten so skinny! I bet you’ve been swimming and playing all day instead of lying on your side like everyone else,» she said, glancing at Kroshik’s mom.

«Yes, Grandma, I have many good friends, and we go on long walks and have lots of fun.»

«Well then, that’s wonderful. Eat your fish, and I’ll tell you a tale.»

In the underwater kingdom, in the realm beneath the sea, lived Neptune, the ruler of the ocean. He sat on his throne in the deepest place below the waves, where no sunlight shone and no fish dared swim. He was very bored. Then suddenly, from out of nowhere, a bathyscaphe descended and hovered right in front of Neptune’s nose. People inside stared out at him!

Neptune was so shocked, he jumped from his throne, stomped his feet, and shook his magical trident so fiercely that the ocean started to heat up. The people were afraid they had offended Neptune – but it was too late. From then on, the seas began to warm, and the ice started to melt.

Kroshik listened intently to Grandma’s story, and it felt like he could actually see the bathyscaphe swish its tail like a fish and bop Neptune on the nose. That made him giggle.

«It’s a good thing this is just a story. I wouldn’t want the ice to melt – I love sleeping on it! If it all melts, where will I sleep?»

      Lazy the Seal

One day, Kroshik was lying on the shore, bored out of his mind, counting seashells.

«One, two, three, four, five…» he yawned and – just like that – drifted off to sleep. And in his dream, he saw something strange.

He dreamed… that he was a real human!

He had a to-do list a mile long and all kinds of chores to complete. But none of the human activities seemed fun to him – except lying on the couch. That part he liked. But even that took energy. So Kroshik decided to find something to eat to get his strength back.

He opened the fridge, but all he found were cucumbers and cabbage. To get fish, he’d have to go to the store. He really didn’t feel like going… but hunger isn’t something you can ignore. So off he went. The path led through a park. While walking, he spotted something moving in the grass. A hedgehog! So many interesting things on land!

He made it to the store, grabbed some fish, but on the way home… he ate it all. And as everyone knows, food in dreams doesn’t count – you still wake up hungry.

And that’s exactly what happened. Kroshik woke up starving. But luckily, Dusya was right there:

      «I brought your favorite – red fish!»

«I had such a weird dream, Dusya! I was a human! I saw cucumbers, cabbage, and even a hedgehog. On land, they’re all so different from what we have in the sea. And I didn’t want to do anything – just lie around all day.»

      «Maybe you’re someone’s spirit animal!» Dusya giggled.

      Kroshik thought for a moment.

«You mean humans and seals have things in common?»

«I mean there are lazybones and couch potatoes among humans too! Want to race to that ice floe over there?»

«I’m not a couch potato! I’ll beat you!» Kroshik shouted.

      «Then prove it!» laughed Dusya.

And with a splash of salty water, they both disappeared beneath the waves.
