Poems and Rhymes

      The Beautiful Lonely Brown Fox

The sky is a shade of blue with low clouds that create a foggy haze

A week ago I read the hunting notice; a little fox will die in a few days

The word on the street is of killing after the fox and hunters meet

Today the farmer’s forest appears dense with trees as I watch and take my seat

I hear the hunters’ horn sound, and the hunt is on to kill a lonely brown fox

A beautiful animal cornered by hunters creating a brutal death in a box

From all four corners in the forest they shout and slowly walk

I watch the big dogs run and I can hear the dogs bark and hunters talk

The hunting of the beautiful fox is illegal today

But no one stops the hunting of the small brown fox on this unhappy day

I have a camera and plan to take pictures of the hunters committing a crime

A deadly act of violence stalking an innocent animal that takes little time

I hear a shot and see something running fast beside the trees

I feel sorry for the lonely fox running away in the cold breeze

I run through the trees and see drops of blood on the rocks at my feet

The cruel hunters and wild dogs will kill the fox and will not retreat

The fox is so little and has not hurt anyone big or small

My body goes tense; I fear the small fox can only limp or crawl

I wonder if he is wounded someplace in his body creating massive pain

Then I hear a mean hunter yell, I will whip the fox with my chain

I feel helpless as I chase the small fox caught in this deadly box

I yell loud to try and stop the hunters and dogs attacking the little brown fox

I feel brave and will not stop even if this fight sends me to my grave

The hunters yell at me and start to get angry and rave

The helpless brown fox is cornered in a small hole in a rotted log

I see the fox with his sad eyes filled with fear of the dog

I kick the fighting dog trying to bite the little brown fox

I see hunters closing in and now I am hunted like the fox in the deadly box

I make my stand snapping pictures as I hear their command

This is not what I expected on this day or what I planned

I hear a gunshot fired into the air and all look at me and stare

I am shaking inside but I am prepared to fight and do not care

I look down to see the small fox shivering alone in the cold

I kneel down and block the hole to the rotted log covered in mold

I am making my stand, and refuse to let them hurt the small fox again

The hunters shout at me and swear at me as they start to complain

The hunters’ eyes look cold and cruel filled with lust to kill

I hear the fox start to cry and whimper and I tell the little fox to sit still

What will I do? They want the fox dead and they may even hurt me

I have made my stand to protect the fox and now we will see

The group is losing momentum and fear the small camera in my hand

I think the fox and I will be safe as we make our final stand

I hear no more sounds coming from the log and look back

Suddenly I feel the wild dog bite me as I feel the attack

The wild dog has teeth that are sharp and bite

Fear fills my veins as I fight for my life using all of my might

I see blood oozing out of the punctured hole in my hand

Then I punch the evil dog in the nose making my stand

I hear the horn blow and the dog retreats without a sound

They have a new hunt, I here them say another fox is found

I watch them run away and wonder if this little brown fox

Will ever be caught in another terrifying hunter’s deadly box

I see the bullet created a small flesh wound hitting the fox on the left paw

We are both wounded; as I look up I hear a big black crow caw

I think he watched the battle of the wild dog and I fight

      As
