      Acknowledgments

Writing a book is an enormous undertaking. Although I have a well-defined vision of what I want to impart, articulating it clearly and concisely and organizing it well inevitably prove challenging at certain times during the writing process. I’ve welcomed input from others who have played vital roles at pivotal points and graciously lent their talents and input. Within my sphere of supporters, I have many to thank.

This book would not have come to fruition if it weren’t for the dedication of the staff at Solution Tree. I’m grateful to those who worked behind the scenes whom I’ve not met in addition to those whom I recognize here.

Douglas Rife, a longtime friend and colleague, always offers prudent advice, caring support, and lively conversations. I am glad he invited me to hop on board so we can work together again and am grateful that he championed what I envisioned for this project.

Claudia Wheatley, an instantaneous friend from the get-go, helped shape the proposal until it was just right. She listened, researched, provided suggestions, and weaved her magic to ensure it was ready for prime time. I’m especially grateful to both Douglas and Claudia for helping secure our alliance for a long time to come.

Amy Rubenstein helped me as I stepped out of the gate, providing nascent feedback to launch the project in the right direction. She invited Tonya Cupp early in the process to offer necessary insight and to do what was in the best interest of my project. I appreciate their judgments and salient feedback about direction at the early stages to launch this endeavor properly.

Thanks to Rian Anderson and his team for being receptive to my suggestions and producing an eye-catching cover that beautifully integrates with the text design and visuals. I also appreciate their careful attention to design throughout the book.

I am grateful for the hard work and dedication Sue Kraszewski devoted on my behalf to make this book the best it could be. It is an arduous task she undertook, and her keen eye and remarkable skill contributed greatly to this final product.

Technology is a vast new domain still with so much to explore. I’m grateful to Nancy Akhavan and Keli Kinsella for helping me find ways to explain the complicated world of technology in a coherent fashion so educators can access and extend their offerings to students.

I’m always indebted to Johnna Becker and Nancy Rhodes, my dear friends and go-to girls from way back when I first started my consulting career. I admire their continual willingness to maximize their own potential so they can pass on the very best in curriculum and instruction to their students.

No matter how immersed in a project Nicole Vagle is, she always lifts her head with a smile to offer feedback. She helps me tease out confusing parts that seemed clear one day but somehow not so much the following day. Offering valuable insight, she sets me in a new and wonderful direction that supplies me with more information to share than I thought I had in me.

Lynn Erickson has been an inspiration to me and undoubtedly countless others. Her work challenges my thinking, and her professional advice has helped to fuel a whole new venture.

For my health and well-being, I have Matt Black to thank. He listens to me fret about another deadline, keeps me on track, finds time in his schedule to train my weary body, and makes me smile.

The proverbial last but not least, I owe a debt of gratitude to my family. With my children now launched, my heart is full of pride and my attention clear to focus on this book. My husband, Mike, is forever my lead champion and constant advocate, always proud and understanding of the path I’ve chosen. His steadfast encouragement, backing, and confidence spur me on each and every day. And he makes a perfect latte!
