This is Panjang.
His father passed away when he was just
10 years old. At an early age, Panjang learned
to be responsible and hardworking.
But there was one thing
that made him stand out
from the other kids.
He was tall.
He was the tallest kid in
Pasir Panjang Primary School.
His friends called him Panjang,
which means “long” in Malay.
He outgrew his shorts very quickly.
His mother got tired of sewing new ones.
She started making them longer than usual.
Panjang grew so tall
his head almost touched
the roof of the bus.
