Samuel Willard Crompton is the author or editor of many books written for a variety of publishers. Though he has written for children, teenagers, and adults, one of the constants of his career is that military topics have often played a major role. He has been a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow on several occasions, the most recent of which was “The Civil War in Trans-National Perspective,” held at New York University. Crompton teaches history at Holyoke Community College in his native Massachusetts.
